The Assistant Shop Manager (ASM) role supports the Retail Manager in their leadership and administrative duties. ASMs serve as leaders in the shop (especially when the Retail Manager is not present or is unavailable). This role encompasses all Love Creamery’s shift leader duties with additional management and administrative duties as detailed below and as assigned by the Retail Manager and Love Creamery’s Headquarters (HQ). The Assistant Shop Manager is responsible for delivering on our promise to create welcoming community gathering place and leading their shop team in delivering great service, consistent scoops, and good vibes during every shift. Responsibilities

  • Support the Retail Manager in their administrative duties as needed – these include but are not limited to scheduling, updating, and auditing shop documents, approving shift trades, finding shift coverage, responding to customer feedback, and ongoing shop projects.
  • Serve as the point person for all Front of House (FOH) shop operations for the Retail Manager days off and other times they are unavailable or Out of the Office —a primary responsibility in this role is ensuring the Retail Manager can truly step away from the business for 2 days every week and take vacation.
  • Oversee store inventory management and ordering in collaboration with Retail Manager and Ice Cream Makers.
  • Participate in HR activities including identifying and communicating operational needs to the appropriate person within Love Creamery and participate in hiring, onboarding, and training for external hires and internal promotions. 
  • Function as the “manager on duty” responsible for all business execution during their shift including cash handling, cleanliness, playing fun upbeat music, keeping team morale high, and delighting our customers. 
  • Manage and prioritize flow of tasks, breaks, and scooping during shift 
  • Responsible for cash handling during shift, including open/close and deposits 
  • Communicate company goals effectively with all employees, including giving direction, coaching, training, and celebrating awesomeness 
  • Communicating clearly, effectively, and respectfully with all members of our team including BOH, FOH, HQ, and delivery in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Ongoing consultation with Production Operations Manager on ice cream flavors, quality, ingredients, and allergens.
  • Problem solve and use good judgment.
  • Set an example of top-notch service and scooping every day.
  • Ability to access and navigate the production and retail facility and travel between stores and HQ.
  • Ability to stand eight hours, lift-up to 50 pounds repeatedly, and take required breaks on time
  • Other functions as deemed appropriate.  

Qualifications

  • To be eligible for an Assistant Shop Manager role candidates must have prior retail experience in a position with teams larger than 8 for more than 18 months in the same location.
  • Available to work at minimum FOUR 8 hours shifts a week to ensure Retail Manager Coverage year round.
  • Be available to work at least one closing weekend shift (Friday or Saturday) every week.
  • Experience in a multi-unit environment, knowledge of retail or restaurant industry operations and financial reporting.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer skills, understanding of Microsoft software, Google and Apple products and ability to use online technology for scheduling and reporting.
  • Vacations are subject to approval based on shift coverage, staffing, and business needs.
  • Love Creamery is a tobacco free company. Smoking is not permitted on or near Love Creamery stores.
  • MN State food handler’s permit is required (can be obtained once hired).

Compensation

  • $18/hour starting wage with tips following successful training
  • Immediate ESSL time flowing MN ESSL law
  • PTO after 12 months of employment with an average 25 hours work week
  • Matching 401K after 12 months of employment (and meeting age requirement)
